Marisa Mayer, Google’s 1st female engineer was appointed by yahoo as its new CEO on July 16,2012. The 37 year old is the firms 3rd CEO in the space of a year. Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20. On the same day Yahoo! announced her hiring, Mayer revealed that she and her husband are expecting a baby boy in October 2012. In a statement released by Yahoo, Ms Mayer said she was “honoured and delighted” to lead the company. She later revealed that she is expecting her first child.
Mayer held key roles in Google Search, Google Images, Google Books, Google Product Search, Google Toolbar, iGoogle, Google News and Gmail. She also oversaw the layout of Google’s famous, unadorned search homepage.
The former CEO Scott Thompson stepped down on May after accusations that he put a fake computer degree on his CV. Later in September 2011, CEO Carol Bartz was fired after two-and-a-half years in the post.
“I look forward to working with the company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalised experiences to users and advertisers all around the world,” Mrs Mayer said.
