It all started coming up when many computers in Iran got infected, the notorious virus dubbed Flame(a.k.a FlamersKyWIper, and Skywiper) Its discovery was announced on 28 May 2012 by MAHER Center of Iranian National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), Kaspersky Lab and CrySyS Lab of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

The virus was mainly targeted on computers running Window’s Operating System. The worm slither’s in and spy on users, it can eavesdrop on Skype calls, take screen shots, and also gather information on keystrokes. It is said to have the ability to also gather information from the Bluetooth devices left nearby the infected system. The data it collects is transmitted back to the creators, thus it may steal confidential and private information.

Experts say that it was playing from 2 years ago but yet wasn’t found till recently…

Flame can be considered as a complete virus, it performs many actions which several viruses did till now. Stuxnet, a virus which had hit the Iranian uranium enrichment facility, causing centrifuges to fail. Iran’s output of uranium was suffered a severe blow as a result of the Stuxnet activities; while Flame is many more powerful than it and is said to have a size of 20 MB!

The virus does not spread itself automatic but only when hidden controls allow it, it can pass almost undetected and very strong, it has got 5 encryption algorithms, it can turn your microphone as listening devices , eavesdrop your calls, and the ability is a lot more than can be said!!

Iran said to have developed an antivirus against this notorious virus, it is said that virus had been created for some specific intention, though not clear about what they were, we can be relieved that normal home computers may not be the targets.

Kaspersky lab said that it was found on many other Middle-eastern countries such as Sudan, Egypt, Palestine, Israel etc
